Ski Area:
The ski area is mostly characterised by long well-groomed cruising pistes well above the tree line and, in a reflection of the linear form of the town, flows in a predominately long and narrow fashion along the backbone of glacial ridges which dominate this landscape. Despite the narrow configuration of the ski area, the domain is big enough to house a respectably wide range of terrain: all the way from sheltered birch woods to glacial summits, and ranging from easily accessible beginners' slopes to seriously exposed off-piste itineraries. The individual sectors that make up the domain each offer a different flavour to each day's riding.
Sectors
* The Pied Moutet sector was the resort's first to be developed, but it now feels remote from the core ski area; a positive attraction when you want to escape the crowds.
* The Cretes/Diable sectors cover the ridges above the main town slopes and house the challenging and almost exclusively black-graded home runs, yet these two intertwined sectors are accessible to all abilities and house some good excursions for beginners too.
* The Toura/La Fée sectors have a wilder edge: Toura features Les Deux Alpes' excellent snowpark and has a buzzing atmosphere; La Fée is at the quieter margins of the domain and is filled with secret stashes of freeride joy.
* The Glacier sector is the highest and most exposed of the sectors but, paradoxically, the dome-shaped summits allow beginners and intermediates to go as high as any advanced ability visitors can. As well as offering guaranteed snow and hosting the station's enjoyable Slide Zones, this sector also opens up a myriad of off-piste routes and links into La Grave.
Les Deux Alpes has one of Europe's clearest piste maps: every lift is clearly numbered and there are masses of piste markers and information displays scattered throughout the domain, making it very easy to quickly move between all sectors.
